by on Aug.13, 2012, under News

Youtube user 2010clarky has modified a Nintendo 64 controller to feature two analog sticks, and it looks pretty slick.

Some Nintendo 64 games allow the player to use two separate N64 controllers to utilise both analog sticks, so the clever modder has housed both analog sticks in one big ol’ merged controller titled the “El Quadinaros.” It still works as a single controller too! (continue reading…)

Game Boy’s Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon headed to 3DS eShop

by on Aug.12, 2012, under News

Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon, an action adventure game (often likened to The Legend of Zelda series) released in 1998 for the Game Boy, is set for release on Nintendo’s European and Australian 3DS Virtual Console services.

Originally released as Ganbare Goemon: Kurofune Tō no Nazo (Go Goemon: Mystery of the Black Ship Gang) in Japan, the title’s gameplay is reminiscent of the Japanese only Ganbare Goemon 3: ShishijÅ«rokubÄ“ no Karakuri Manji Gatame for the Super Famicom – including RPG elements, puzzle-solving and a top-down perspective of the action. Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon features three payable characters – Geomon, Sasuke and Ebisumaru, all tasked with rescuing fellow ninja Yae from the Black Ship Gang who kidnapped her.

Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon is available 16 August for £2.70 / €3.00 in Europe and most likely $4.50 for Australia.

Haunting Ground coming to PS2 Classics?

by on Jul.29, 2012, under News

The ESRB has rated Haunting Ground, a PS2 survival horror game from Capcom, for the Playstation 3 – suggesting a PSN re-release is happening.

In Haunting Ground, players assume the role of Fiona in her attempt to escape a castle inhabited by some pretty creepy people intent on chasing and attacking the young lady. Your time in the castle is spent solving puzzles, evading and hiding from pursuers and generally running about in fear – being fearful for long enough triggers Panic Mode where players must endure a blurry screen and other unsettling visual effects along with controller vibrations in time with Fiona’s heartbeat. You do have Hewie though; a white German Sheppard that Fiona befriends and can command to help you out with a bit of growling, barking, biting, and such.

Hopefully, PAL regions will also see Haunting Ground as a PS2 Classic in the near future.

by on Jul.19, 2012, under News

Angry Birds is basically everywhere you look nowadays, and it has even made its way to the Sega Mega Drive – well, on an emulator anyway.

The fan demake, created by a Chinese developer going by the screen name zhengyaxin_8bit, gives the super popular Angry Birds a 16-bit makeover, and overcomes the lack of a touch based control scheme with a simple press and drag on the keyboard instead.

You can download the ROM for Angry Birds on Sega Mega Drive here – it is free and available now.

Silent Hill HD Collection now more playable – on PS3 at least

by on Jul.17, 2012, under News

A patch for the PlayStation 3 version of the Silent Hill HD Collection has been released via PSN, addressing many of the issues plaguing the recent re-release.

As a result of unfinished versions of Silent Hill 2 and 3 being used to port across to the Xbox 360 and PS3 (Konami lost the complete source code), the Silent Hill HD Collection was released with numerous bugs and problems that left purchasers with a bad taste in their mouths. Konami announced a patch to fix these issues for both versions of the title a few months back, however it seems Xbox 360 owners are being left waiting a little longer.

Fixes included in the patch:
– Improved frame rate
– Voice synch is greatly improved
– Missing sounds have been fixed
– Missing music has been addressed
– Fog density issues are resolved
– Other minor visual/audio improvements

With the patch now available, now might be the time to revisit Silent Hill. Well, unless you are a Xbox 360 owner.
