Mobile version of Pitfall! underway at Activision
by Charly on Jul.16, 2012, under News
The newly-formed mobile division over at Activision is revisiting the old Activision classic Pitfall!
Originally released back in 1982 for the Atari 2600 (and ported to just about everything else 8-bit), Pitfall! was a big success – it was the second highest selling game for the Atari 2600 and is adored by fans still to this day.
“We’ve been working on Pitfall since earlier in the year when we set up and it has been really good to revisit that and bring it to a modern audience” Activision’s Martyn Brown told MCV, keen to dispel last week’s rumours that a Call of Duty for smartphones was underway instead. “Pitfall for smartphones is a fresh take†he continued, however no details as to what this entails have yet be provided.
Pitfall! turns 30 in September of this year – 3 months ahead of me. We are old.
Street Fighter 25th Anniversary Collector’s Set for PS3 gets even more content
by Charly on Jul.16, 2012, under News
The Street Fighter 25th Anniversary Collector’s Set is already chock full of goodies, but PlayStation 3 owners are now in for even more content. At San Diego Comic-Con, Capcom announced that the PS3 version of the set will include exclusive additional digital content.
In addition to all the content already announced, the PS3 version will come with download codes for Street Fighter Alpha: Warriors’ Dreams, Street Fighter Alpha 2 and Street Fighter Alpha 3 as PSOne Classics, Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max for PSP, and the Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike Online Edition DLC. You will apparently also receive 175 PSN avatars – that’s a lot of avatars!
The Street Fighter 25th Anniversary Collector’s Set is available for both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on September 18 in North America for US$149.99 (you can preorder it on Amazon now). I wonder if the Xbox 360 version will get anything to compensate.

Yakuza 1 & 2 HD Edition might be a thing
by Charly on Jul.15, 2012, under News
Sega Japan may have unintentionally revealed a HD re-release of Yakuza and Yakuza 2 for PlayStation 3.
Appearing on Sega’s release schedule for a short time, RyÅ« ga Gotoku 1& 2 HD Edition (Yakuza 1 & 2 HD Edition) was listed for a December 1 release at 5,229 yen. The now amended release schedule shows no sign of Yakuza 1 & 2 HD Edition, however Andriasang, who originally spotted the “announcementâ€, posted a link to the cached version of the original schedule which outed the title.
With Yakuza 5 set for release around the same time, December is shaping up to be a great month for series’ fans.

Fan remake of cult classic Black Sect is now available
by Charly on Jun.25, 2012, under News
Last week saw the release of a fan remake of Lankhor’s cult classic Black Sect – a 1993 adventure game released for the Atari ST, Amiga and PC.
Black Sect has been remade in Adventure Game Studio and includes additional features to make the game more accessible – extra and modified puzzles, new sound and music, unlimited save slots, updated hint system, new interface, etc. The remake retains the original game’s visuals (for the most part), locations, and the day and night cycle while removing the real-time time limits and dead ends that plagued players previously.
The Black Sect remake can be downloaded here for free.

by Charly on Jun.20, 2012, under News
A fan translation of the 1993 PC Engine classic Castlevania: Dracula X Rondo of Blood is now complete. Titled Castlevania: Rondo of Blood, the patch translates the in-game text to English and replaces the games audio with the PSP remake’s English dub.
Castlevania: Dracula X Rondo of Blood was first seen outside of Japan in 2007 in the form of a 2.5D remake featured in Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles for the PSP which also included an unlockable port of its sequel Castlevania: Symphony of the Night.
The patch can be downloaded here.
