DuckTales Remastered for PS3 will be available at retail in North America

by on Jul.13, 2013, under News

ducktalesremastered
Capcom has announced that they will be releasing a retail package for DuckTales Remastered. However, it’s only for the PS3 version, and only in North America at this stage.

The package will contain a download code for the game and a special collector’s pin. It’s also got pretty neat box art, too. It’ll set you back $US20, five bucks more than the standard digital copy.

DuckTales Remastered will be out on the PS3, PC and WiiU on August 13, and on Xbox 360 on August 20.

Pokémon Red ROM hack brings some colour to Kanto

by on Jun.27, 2013, under News

Pokemon Red ROM

ROM hacker, Drenn, has created a fan-made patch which adds both full colour and more detailed sprites to the well-loved monster catching RPG classic Pokémon Red.

FroggestSpirit colourised much of Kanto but had left the project incomplete, so Drenn completed the ROM with help from Danny-E 33’s graphics patch. This means that Pokémon Red, originally for the Game Boy, has both been colourised and includes sprites used in later Pokémon games.

The patch can be played via emulator or on the Game Boy Color using a compatible flashcard, and you can check it out here.

Cave Story comes to the Dreamcast

by on Jun.25, 2013, under News

cavestory

The classic indie PC game Cave Story (or Doukutsu Monogatari) has been ported to the Dreamcast.

This has been made possible by a complete open-source rewrite of the game’s engine, known as NXEngine. The port does have a few issues, namely sound, but it’s still fairly functional. A self-booting ISO is available here.

It’s cool to see people still supporting the Dreamcast with quality homebrew ports.

Mega Man for Game Gear rated by ESRB, 3DS Virtual Console release incoming?

by on Jun.25, 2013, under News

megamangg
Capcom has teasing more Mega Man games for Virtual Console, but their cover may have been blown by the ESRB, the North American video game rating board. The ESRB has issued a rating for the Game Gear version of Mega Man.

The Game Gear Mega Man is a bit of a mashup between Mega Man 4 and 5 on the NES, with a few adjustments made to fit it into the GG’s tiny screen area. The game wasn’t particularly warmly received upon release, but the relatively small print run and obsessive Mega Man fans’ tendency to disregard fiscal well-being has seen it skyrocket on eBay.

Expect to see an official announcement soon.

Rumour: Final Fantasy X|X-2 HD Remaster Limited Edition to be announced

by on Jun.25, 2013, under News

FFHD

A Gamestop advertisement may have outed a yet to be announced Final Fantasy X|X-2 HD Remaster Limited Edition. The ad (pictured below) offered a ‘free limited edition upgrade’ to those that pre-order the upcoming title. The offer has since been removed and replaced with a less titillating ‘Coming Soon’ message instead.

Square Enix are yet to comment on the existence of a Final Fantasy X|X-2 HD Remaster Limited Edition, but we think a Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix Limited Edition-esque version seems very likely.

Is Shinobi III coming to 3DS eShop?

by on Jun.25, 2013, under News

ShinobiIII

Nintendo Everything recently spied a PEGI rating for Shinobi III. It looks like Sega are set to re-release Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master, originally released in 1993 on the Sega Mega Drive, as a 3D Classic for the Nintendo 3DS eShop.

Shinobi III is well loved, so I’m sure many fans will be happy to see the game alongside Ecco the Dolphin and Galaxy Force II which were announced this week as part of Sega’s second wave of 3D Classics.

Character rosters for Super Smash Bros will be the same across WiiU and 3DS

by on Jun.22, 2013, under News

ssb4
Masahiro Sakurai has revealed in a recent interview with NowGamer that the WiiU and 3DS versions of the next Super Smash Bros. game will feature the same characters.

Sakurai stated that “Fundamentally we’re going to have the same characters on both systems. If there was a character you couldn’t play on Wii U but you could play on 3DS, or vice versa, that’s rough for consumers. So we want players to be able to have the same character experiences on both devices.”

Not all previous characters will be returning however, as Sakurai elaborates “We don’t have the time to fully recreate every single character who’s been in Smash Bros at this point. Adding new characters is not a simple addition – it’s really multiplication. The amount of work, adding a character is multiplied and becomes bigger and bigger as you go.”

So perhaps we won’t be seeing the long awaited return of Dr. Mario.
