Desert Demolition starring Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote is one of only a handful licensed 16-bit games that are actually any good. The game boasts superb sprites and animation, and does a pretty spectacular job of capturing the spirit of the classic Road Runner shorts. It’s a bit on the easy side, though.

Grabbed by the Ghoulies was Rare’s first after joining the Microsoft fold. Expectations were high for Rare under Microsoft, but Ghoulies, a title ported quickly from the GameCube to the Xbox, didn’t resonate with fans, who were waiting for sequels to big time Rare hits like Perfect Dark and Banjo-Kazooie.

EA’s PGA Tour series on the Mega Drive proved popular enough to encourage them to bring it to the PC to take on the Links juggernaut. PGA Tour Golf 486 is a rather odd name for the product, chosen because it was intended to run on processors of that level, which were still at the higher end of the CPU scale in 1994 when it was released.

Video Game Ad of the Day: Star Fox (Starwing)

Star Fox (or Starwing for us PAL types) was the poster child for Argonaut’s Super FX chip, which boosted the 3D graphics capabilities of the SNES significantly. Argonaut developed Star Fox in conjunction with Nintendo – the British studio worked on the tech, while the Japanese company handled much of the game design and planning. A special competition version of the game is one of the most sought after SNES carts.

Day of Defeat Retail
Day of Defeat started life as a mod for the original Half-Life. Day of Defeat proved popular enough for it to become sanctioned by Valve and receive a standalone retail release, which is what this ad is promoting. Day of Defeat is probably one of the finest mods ever developed, even if it has been overshadows by Counter-Strike and Team Fortress.

NBA Full Court Press
NBA Full Court Press was part of an initial push by Microsoft to get some sports games onto Windows. Australia’s Beam Software developed the game – an odd choice since they’d never made a basketball game before. NBA Full Court Press wasn’t particularly well received.

Bad Mojo is a rather interesting adventure game played from the perspective of a man who has been transformed into a cockroach. Bad Mojo unexpectedly received a remake of sorts in 2004 in the form of Bad Mojo Redux, which featured upgraded FMV and some behind the scenes featurettes.
