EA’s PGA Tour series on the Mega Drive proved popular enough to encourage them to bring it to the PC to take on the Links juggernaut. PGA Tour Golf 486 is a rather odd name for the product, chosen because it was intended to run on processors of that level, which were still at the higher end of the CPU scale in 1994 when it was released.

Before wunderkind Tiger Woods showed up on the scene, EA Sports’ golf series put the PGA branding front and center. PGA Tour Golf introduced the revolutionary three click swing system, which was imitated by pretty much every golf game up to Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2003, which introduced analogue stick-based swinging.

CyberTiger is a rather odd footnote in the history of EA Sports, coming from a brief period of experiementation where the company decided to try making arcade versions of their sports games to sit on shelves alongside their simulations. Didn’t go so well.
