Tomb Raider GRE
This Greek ad for Tomb Raider for the Sega Saturn seems like a pretty standard ad…until you look closely and see that there’s a picture of the Nude Raider hack in action. This ad is from the official Greek distributor for the game too – crazy!

Video Game Ad of the Day: Super Punch Out!!

by on Jun.05, 2013, under Video Game Ad of the Day

Super Punch Out
Super Punch Out!! is the fourth game in the Punch Out!! series and the second to use that name. It’s a bit more over the top than the other Punch Out!! games – which is saying something – I don’t remember anyone trying to hit you with a wooden cane or a flying kick in the other games.

Video Game Ad of the Day: PaRappa the Rapper

PaRappa the Rapper
PaRappa the Rapper is one of the most popular games of the early years of the PlayStation. It’s a pretty simplistic rhythm game, but the combination of the game’s unique art style, catchy song lyrics and addictive gameplay won people over.

Video Game Ad of the Day: Contra III: The Alien Wars (Super Probotector: Alien Rebels)

Contra III-1
Contra III: The Alien Wars (or Super Probotector: Alien Rebels, or Contra Spirits) marks the debut of Konami’s platforming shooter series on the 4th generation consoles. Like most Konami SNES/SFC releases, we recommend going after the Super Famicom version: it’s cheaper (especially if you want it complete) and it’s easier (thanks to unlimited continues).

Video Game Ad of the Day: Link: The Faces of Evil and Zelda: The Wand of Gamelon

Zelda CDI FRA
Here we have two of the three Legend of Zelda games Nintendo would prefer you forgot about: Link: The Faces of Evil and Zelda: The Wand of Gamelon.

The Faces of Evil and Zelda: The Wand of Gamelon, and a third game, Zelda’s Adventure, came as a result of Nintendo’s deal with Philips for the SNES CD, which Nintendo decided to abandon. As part of the dissolution of this agreement, Philips was granted rights by Nintnedo to produce games featuring a number of their characters. The results were not pretty.

Video Game Ad of the Day: Fido Dido

by on Jun.01, 2013, under Video Game Ad of the Day

Fido Dido
Contrary to popular belief, Fido Dido isn’t actually a creation of PepsiCo – he was created by two New York animators, who sold t-shirts of the character they printed himself. PepsiCo then licensed the mascot to hock their drinks before replacing him with Cool Spot. The Fido Dido video game was scheduled to be released in 1993, but never made to market. A prototype ROM is in wide circulation.

Video Game Ad of the Day: Atomic Bomberman

by on May.31, 2013, under Video Game Ad of the Day

Atomic Bomberman
Atomic Bomberman is a bit of an anomaly. It’s Bomberman designed by a Western team – Interplay licensed the rights from Hudson Soft and proceeded to produce their own spin on the formula. Obviously the best part of the game is the multiplayer support – Atomic Bomberman supports up to 10 players. LAN and Internet play were planned for the project, and remnants are in the game code, but neither was present in the final release.

Video Game Ad of the Day: Nano Breaker

by on May.30, 2013, under Video Game Ad of the Day

Nanobreaker
Nano Breaker is a game cast in the mould of Castlevania: Lament of Innocence, but ditches Dracula and the occult for cybords and plasma weapons. Nano Breaker was brutalised by critics of the day, despite those same critics being more receptive of Lament of Innocence. Today Nano Breaker is remembered as being one of the bloodiest games ever released.

Video Game Ad of the Day: Indiana Jones’ Greatest Adventures

by on May.29, 2013, under Video Game Ad of the Day

Indiana Jones Greatest Adventures
Indiana Jones’ Greatest Adventures is to the Indiana Jones trilogy as Super Star Wars et al are to the Star Wars Trilogy, packing the popular LucasFilm movies into a series of pretty challenging platforming levels. A Mega Drive version was planned for release in late 1995, but was cancelled despite being completed.

Video Game Ad of the Day: WCW Nitro

by on May.28, 2013, under Video Game Ad of the Day

WCW Nitro
I dare say that WCW Nitro is the worst video game licensed by a professional wrestling organisation. WCW Nitro is damn near uncontrollable, looks ugly by the standards of the day and animates awfully. It does feature a few amusing FMV clips of wrestler promos, but WCW Nitro should be avoided at all costs.
