Old Sonic fans are hard to please according to Sonic Team
by Matt Keller on Aug.06, 2011, under News
In the latest issue of the Official Nintendo Magazine (the UK one, meaning you’ll see it recycled in our ONM months later), Takashi Iizuka, the producer on the upcoming Sonic Generations discusses how he believes it is difficult to please the Sonic fans who grew up with the original Mega Drive games.
“Our team are always trying to present new gameplay innovations so it’s hard to please fans who like the gameplay from the older games,” he says. “However, we have included the older gameplay as part of Sonic’s 20th Anniversary, so we think the fans of the older games will enjoy it [Generations] as well. We are also looking into continuing the Sonic 4 series which was released on WiiWare, and we’ll keep developing titles so more fans will enjoy the games.”
We’re not really that hard to please – just remember that the series is more about momentum based platforming, not pure speed.

First 4 Figures, the group that produces many video game statuettes, will be releasing a Metal Sonic statuette in conjunction with the character’s appearance in the upcoming classic Sonic/modern Sonic crossover title Sonic Generations.
The company’s site describes Metal Sonic statuette as “Created in his classic design, he is speeding across the Stardust Speedway inspired base. Arm outstretched, he reaches out to grab hold of Sonic and gain an advantage in their life or death race in Act III!”
The piece is limited to 1,500 units and will set you back $US155, so if you want one, order now.
Video Game Ad of the Day: Knuckles Chaotix

A Sonic game without Sonic? Madness!
Knuckles Chaotix was the closest thing to a Sonic game released on the 32X. The concept for the game can be traced back to a leaked beta called Sonic Crackers, which had Sonic and Tails connected by proverbial bungee cord between rings that the two carried. Amusingly, the character Mighty the Armadillo was a character concept created for the original Sonic the Hedgehog before Sega settled with Sonic. This ad is for the UK version of the game.

Today marks 20 years since Sonic the Hedgehog was released.
Sonic the Hedgehog was the game which changed Sega’s fortunes in America. The bold decision to package the machine’s killer app with the console led to unprecedented sales and a massive market share. This ad comes from the UK – if you look closely, you will see that Sega distribution was still being handled by Virgin Mastertronic at this time.
