Video Game Ad of the Day: The Super Mario Bros. Film
by Matt Keller on Feb.20, 2013, under Video Game Ad of the Day
The Super Mario Bros. film is an often maligned piece of media due to the dramatic shift the property made during the transfer from video game to movie. The film spent ages in development, going through numerous writers and directors, and the end result was dramatically different from what was originally planned.
Another Tekken movie in the works
by Matt Keller on May.20, 2012, under News
Hollywood Reporter revealed in a story earlier today that movie studio Crystal Sky is working on another Tekken movie.
The film, entitled Tekken: Rise of the Tournament, will act as a prequel to the 2010 live action Tekken film.
Ong Bak director Prachya Pinkaew has been lined up to direct the film, though no script or casting has taken place. The story states that the producers of the film want the cast to use actors that resemble the game’s characters rather than star performers.
It also looks unlikely that the film will receive a theatrical release, though Crystal Sky CEO Steven Paul has hope that it will.
Should it come to fruition, Tekken: Rise of the Tournament will be the fourth Tekken movie to date.
Rampage movie still happening
by Matt Keller on Apr.04, 2012, under News
A string of recent commercial failures isn’t going to stop the Rampage franchise from making the leap to the silver screen. New Line Cinema is behind the film, and hopes to make something along the lines of disaster pic Independence Day.
According to Variety, movie exec-cum-screenwriter Ryan Eagle (On a Clear Day) will be writing the script and John Rickard (Horrible Bosses) will be producing. Apparently film is a priority for New Line parent Warner Bros. who also owns the Rampage IP after their consumption of Midway’s leftovers.
