by on Aug.20, 2013, under News

Capcom have announed that the Super Nintendo ports of Street Fighter II: The World Warrior (Street Fighter II), Street Fighter II’ Turbo: Hyper Fighting (Street Fighter II Turbo) and Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers (Super Street Fighter II) are headed to the Wii U Virtual Console this coming Thursday.

Players in North America buying one of the games (US$7.99 each) can purchase either or both of the others at half price, while players in Europe (and hopefully Australia) can buy two of the games (£5.49 each) and get the third Street Fighter II game for free. All three titles come with Miiverse support.

That’s a whole lot of Street Fighter II to keep you busy this weekend.

Earthbound 64 cancellation interview translated

by on Aug.19, 2013, under News

mother3
Japanese translation blog Yomuka has posted an English version of the three way interview between Shigeru Miyamoto, Satoru Iwata (then HAL Laboratory President) and Mother series creator Shigesato Itoi which was posted not long after the official announcement of the cancellation of the Nintendo 64 version of Mother 3 (known to us as Earthbound 64).

The interview is long, but goes into a lot of detail about where the game was at, what was going wrong with it and why the cancellation occurred.

It’s a fascinating read.

Donkey Kong Country TV series returns to DVD in North America

by on Aug.19, 2013, under News

Back in the 1990s, Nintendo licensed Donkey Kong Country out for a CG animated TV show produced by France 2 and Nelvana. The result was not pretty, and most people have tried to forget about it.

However, those of you with a morbid curiosity may be excited to know that a new DVD featuring three episodes from the short-lived series will be released in North America in October. The DVD is called Donkey Kong Country: Raiders of the Lost Banana and will set you back $US10.

This may be the first release of the series on DVD in North America, but a couple of single episode DVDs and one collection have been released in Australia and can be found for cheap.

Castle of Illusion HD coming September 3, PSN version preorders get bonus Mega Drive version

by on Aug.17, 2013, under News

castleofillusion2013-2
Sega has finally announced that Castle of Illusion HD will be hitting the PlayStation Store on September 3, with the Xbox Live Arcade version to follow on September 4.

As an added incentive, Sega will be giving away the Mega Drive version of Castle of Illusion with digital preorders on the PlayStation Store. It is our understanding that this will be the only way to get the classic version of the game, as plans have not been announced for a separate release.

A local price for the PSN version has not been revealed (it is £9.99 / €12.99 / $US14.99 elsewhere), but it will set you back 1200 Microsoft Points on Xbox Live.

RPG classic Breath of Fire II coming to Wii U Virtual Console

by on Aug.07, 2013, under News

Over the weekend, Capcom announced their plans to bring Breath of Fire II to the Wii U Virtual Console.

Capcom excitedly shared the news that fans can expect to see the classic Super Nintendo turn-based RPG on the Wii U in the coming months via the Nintendo eShop. This is obviously not the first re-release of the Breath of Fire II, with the game being ported to the Game Boy Advance in 2002 and appearing on the Wii’s Virtual Console in 2007 – still, it is good news!

Japan recently received news that Breath of Fire VI is in development for PC and mobile devices, but there is no word as of yet regarding such a release in the West. Hopefully the aforementioned re-release with satiate Breath of Fire fans’ appetites until we hear more about the new entry in the series – the game headed to 3DS or Wii U would make many a person happy, I suspect.

Check out the Breath of Fire II Virtual Console trailer above.

Super Mario Crossover 3.0 now available

by on Aug.06, 2013, under News

supermariocrossover3
The latest version of Exploding Rabbit’s popular Super Mario Crossover flash game is now available. The update was previously planned for release in June, but unforeseen circumstances held the game back another month.

New to version 3 are the Super Mario Bros. Special levels, based on the maligned version of the game released for the Sharp X1 computer, a selectable difficulty mode which adjusts layouts of the levels and more game specific skins.

The next project up for Exploding Rabbit is an original title – Super Retro Squad, which expands upon the formula seen in the Super Mario Crossover game and features original characters and designs.
