Neo Geo X Gold Limited Edition being discontinued
by Matt Keller on Jan.27, 2013, under News
The Neo Geo X Gold Limited Edition is actually limited as it turns out, and if you want one, you’ll need to get in before the end of April, when the manufacturer expects the stock to be exhausted. The standard Neo Geo X Gold system will continue to be sold beyond this point.
Speaking with Eurogamer, representatives from Tommo stated “The NeoGeo X Gold System Limited Edition Collection Series that includes Ninja Masters, was always planned to be a limited edition product. We are currently manufacturing our final run of this Limited Edition Collection Series and our distributors worldwide expect to have the final stock in April. Given the popularity of the NeoGeo X format, we don’t expect this stock to last long.”
Apparently there are meant to be some announcements concerning more games and software updates for the console soon.

Metroid II fan remake playable demo now available
by Matt Keller on Jan.14, 2013, under News
The Metroid II remake project, AM2R, has been ongoing for what seems like eons, but fans can get their first taste of the game thanks to a demo released late last month.
AM2R attempts to marry the gameplay and visual stylings of the 2004 Metroid remake, Zero Mission, with the monochrome Game Boy only release of Metroid II: Return of Samus, giving fans the opportunity to enjoy the oft overlooked second game in the series with some more modern trimmings. Nintendo had at one stage been working on Metroid II DX for the Game Boy Color, but the project was cancelled.
No release date is planned for the final version of AM2R at this stage.
The Organ Trail: Director’s Cut now available on Windows, Mac OS
by Matt Keller on Jan.12, 2013, under News
The Organ Trail is an indie game which combines the classic educational game The Oregon Trail with – you guessed it – zombies. Rather than fighting off starvation and dysentery, the game has you fighting off the undead hordes as you and your group of survivors take their station wagon across the continental United States.
The game was originally released for free as a Flash game before being expanded onto iOS and Android devices. Now the game has returned to Windows and Mac OS with even more extra content. Said extra content will be available for the phone versions as DLC for around $2.
You can buy the game here for $US4.99. The game is also currently a candidate for Steam Greenlight, so you should support it there too.

Sony ends global PlayStation 2 manufacturing
by Matt Keller on Jan.08, 2013, under News
Hot off the heels of the news that Sony was stopping PlayStation 2 production in Japan, The Guardian is reporting that Sony is actually ceasing manufacturing of the best-selling console globally.
The PlayStation 2 launched in March 2000 and has sold over 150 million units worldwide.
Units are still on shelves, but whatever’s left in Sony’s warehouses is it – so if you want a spare machine or you’re one of the few who never bought a PS2 in the first place, this might be your last chance to get a fresh console.

Elite: Dangerous Kickstarter meets target
by Matt Keller on Jan.04, 2013, under News
Frontier Developments’ Kickstarter for Elite: Dangerous initially seemed like, well, a bit of a desperate cash grab – a bit of concept art and a promise and not much else – combined with a huge goal. Compare that to the excellent Chris Roberts campaign for Star Citizen. And that’s not even taking into consideration how long they’d supposedly been working on Elite IV, how much money the burnt on the now shelved project The Outsider and so on.
David Braben and his team obviously listened to the criticism and got their act together – their Kickstarter campaign flourished with all kinds of neat video interviews, gameplay screens and updates. The people responded – the project has met that lofty £1.25 million goal with a day to spare.
Elite: Dangerous is currently scheduled for release in March 2014.
