The Super Mario Bros. film is an often maligned piece of media due to the dramatic shift the property made during the transfer from video game to movie. The film spent ages in development, going through numerous writers and directors, and the end result was dramatically different from what was originally planned.

It seems like every franchise has a bizarre misstep – Street Fighter is no exception. Street Fighter 2010 is only vaguely related to the world’s most popular fighting game series – perhaps in name only. The localised version of Street Fighter 2010 saw the character’s name changed from Kevin to Ken, along with heavy implication that he’s Ken Masters.

The original Halo is still far and away the best entry in the series. Originally intended to be a real-time strategy game for the Mac, Halo underwent a huge number of changes during its development. The purchase of Halo and Bungie proved to be the boost Microsoft needed to get the Xbox console off the ground.

Mutant League Football takes the successful formula of the early Madden games and replaces the NFL players with a bunch of homicidal mutants and fills the field with a variety of deadly traps. The result is some crazy, gory fun.

Forget that Colonial Marines bullshit and play a real Aliens game.

Since they finally decided to show off something for the sequel, we thought we’d take the opportunity to bring up the ad for the original. Wasteland is a post-apocalyptic RPG from the late 1980s, developed by Interplay and published by Electronic Arts. Interplay would later use the setting and style of Wasteland as the basis for Fallout.

One of the most popular and groundbreaking games of the 32/64-bit era was GoldenEye 007. The game is widely held to be one of the best licensed games ever produced, but the reason it’s so popular is its splitscreen multiplayer feature.

Goemon’s Great Adventure (sometimes called Mystical Ninja 2: Goemon’s Great Adventure) is the second N64 adventure featuring Konami’s blue haired ninja, and actually the last one to be released outside of Japan – and tends to carry a high price in PAL regions due to its low print run. Seems now the only place you’ll see Goemon is in pachislot games.

Shinobi for the Master System might not have the graphical lustre of the arcade original, but the gameplay made the journey home without too many compromises. That makes it one of the best games on the system.
