Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty E3 Trailer, no release on Microsoft consoles
by Matt Keller on Jun.15, 2013, under News
Oddworld Inhabitants has released a new trailer for the upcoming HD remake of Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee, entitled Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty. The game is currently scheduled to be released on the PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and Wii U.
It won’t, however, be coming to the Xbox 360 or Xbox One anytime soon. According to Oddworld Inhabitants co-founder Lorne Lanning, it’s because Microsoft stuffed them around with Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath. Microsoft first rejected the game because it exceeded the XBLA size limit, then refused them a slot because they didn’t have a publisher. In a recent interview with Eurogamer, Lanning elaborated “Why do we need a publisher when we self-finance our games, we build our own IP, we manage our own IP and we’ve turned nearly two million units online as indie publishers sold – not free downloads? Why? What’s wrong with us?”
They could actually release the game if they wanted to, Lanning elaborated, stating “For Xbox One they’ve granted us a license for New ‘n’ Tasty! but they still say you need a publisher. We don’t have a publisher so we’re not officially on the platform, even though we’re compatible, even though we’ll be ready to do it. Period.”

OddWorld: Abe’s Oddysee HD is now a full blown remake

Perhaps you’ve heard about Oddworld Inhabitants intentions to produce a HD version of its debut hit OddWorld: Abe’s Oddysee. No? Well, what was previously a HD upgrade has now turned into a full on remake of the game, according to the Oddworld Inhabitants Facebook page.
A post from a company representative states “We decided to reboot it, not just an HD update to the original PS1 title, this is a NEW game. It will be getting it’s first public showing LATER this year, with a release date of NEXT summer (2013).”
Speaking with VG247, developer Just Add Water (who was responsible for the previously released Stranger’s Wrath HD) confirmed the news. “We are re-making Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee, however we didn’t want the impression to be that we were just doing a port of the PSone title with higher res art,” said developer Stewart Gilray. “We are starting from scratch on this one, using the original as the blueprint for the game. So technically it’s not a new game, but a from-the-ground-up remake.”
