Retro Gaming Australia needs your help
by Matt Keller on Aug.10, 2011, under Site
Retro Gaming Australia is looking for a few good people to help take it to the next level. Due to new professional obligations, the time I am able to dedicate to RGA is going to be reduced but with your help we can turn the site into something truly special.
We need people to occupy the following roles
– News writers
– Feature writers
– Archivists
– Community managers
All roles are currently volunteer (i.e. unpaid) positions. We do not require writers to be based in Australia, or even focus solely on Australian content.
News Writers
Over the last month, we’ve had tremendous success with posting news articles about things related to classic gaming. The persons who take on this role will be responsible for posting the latest happenings in the retro world – everything from remake announcements through to fan projects.
An ideal candidate would possess the following attributes:
– 18+ (the role may require going to gigs and events, which are often held at bars)
– Well versed in the history of video games
– The ability to write snappy headlines and jokes without depending too heavily on toilet humour and sexual innuendo
– Basic image editing skills
– Basic research abilities
– Familiarity with WordPress
– The time to commit to writing an average of five short news articles a day
Feature Writers
The most successful aspect of RGA has been our feature content. The persons who take on this role will be responsible for continuing the legacy of our feature content, producing articles on the history of video game series, video game companies, and other video game related paraphenalia.
An ideal candidate would possess the following attributes:
– Be able to produce features both independently and based on allocated subjects/criteria
– Well versed in the history of video games
– Excellent research abilities (including referencing)
– Excellent grasp of the English language
– Basic image editing skills
– Familiarity with WordPress
Having video editing skills and knowledge of wiki editing would also be viewed as a serious advantage.
Archivists
Do you have a large collection of old Australian video game paraphenalia and/or gaming magazines? Do you like to sift through dusty old books and magazines looking for obscure information? This role is for you. We’re looking for people with a love of gaming history to help us finish off RGA’s major project.
If you have any of the following, contact me and pledge your assistance to our project.
– A collection of Australian video game magazines, fan club newsletters, pamphlets, etc.
– Video games developed in Australia, in a complete state (box, manual, cartridge/discs in good condition or better)
– A keen interest in archiving the unique history of the video game industry in Australia
– An authoritative writing style
– Good research abilities
Owning a scanner or being able to send things to us for scanning would be a great help.
Community & Social Media Managers
This role is for the social butterflies who want to interact with our readers and promote the site around the Internet and on various forms of social media.
An ideal candidate would possess the following attributes:
– 18+ (the role may require going to gigs and events, which are often held at bars)
– Friendly and approachable
– Mastery of social media (Twitter, Facebook etc.)
– Basic knowledge of the history of video games
If you are interested in one of the above roles, contact me at admin@retrogamingaus.com with the relevant position(s) as your subject.
